Training and Services To End Violence And Abuse Of Women

Women above 50 years of age are often victims of abuse, domestic violence, sexual assault, and neglect raising the awareness of Congress on the issue. Under its various social incentive schemes, protection of these women is one such government-instituted program.

The program falls under the Violence Against Women Act of 2005 and runs under the Training Grants Program to foster relief to women. This whole program is being administered by the Office on Violence Against Women (OVM).

Any person 50 years or above facing physical harm, pain or mental anguish as a result of any action of intimidation, unreasonable confinement, cruel punishment or willful infliction of injury or due to denial of good and services by a caregiver, constitutes elder abuse.

Victims of unwanted turmoil in their life, women often find powerless to report against their abusers. Its often their dependency too on their abusers that prevents them to outside assistance or help along with this their biological limitations and social taboos render them more vulnerable. Though, the domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking are presented for all ages yet the older victims are more susceptible.

All the States, local government units, tribal organizations or Indian tribal governments along with the nonprofit and nongovernmental services organizations exhibiting their fruitful propositions and experience either in assistance of elderly women or addressing their issues are provided with the grants.

All the applicants had to submit non-binding letter of intent for the said purpose. Registration of the program with Grants.gov is only one time process and takes five business days to get the registration process validated.

The registration with Central Contractor Registry must be renewed once a year and failure to do the same will account to prohibition of submission of the grants application through Grants.gov.

The grants are bestowed to formulate training programs to facilitate governmental agencies, prosecutors, law enforcement, victim assistants and associated officers of local, territorial, tribal, State, Federal courts with an intention to recognize, address, investigate and prosecute instances of elder abuse and the neglect of the same.

These grants are also accorded to provide and enhance services to these victims and also to create and support response of multidisciplinary collaborative community to such victims. Grants are also made to administer cross-training program for law enforcement, courts, governmental agencies, victim service organizations, courts, and nonprofit and nongovernmental organizations serving victims of these kinds.

Attorney General has the authority to sanction the grants.
